Artist Profile:
Living Word, Written Word, SPOKEN WORD!
Judah Israel Michael: Poet, Performer, Lyrical Evangelist.
Instead of regurgitating the
same tired clichés and meaningless drivel you've heard at countless open mic
nights (and church services) Judah is setting fire to the page and stage
with an uncompromised spiritual message, blistering social satire, and edgy
wit. Not content with the safe “feel good” poems at safe
“positive” venues, this 27 year old spoken-word artist is traveling
all over the U.S. (as well as Canada) shaking up the Church world with slam
poetry, and shaking up the slam scene with rhyming sermons. Having
spoken in 18 states already, it's no mystery why poetix.net called Judah
“the nation’s top traveling Christian performance poet of Semitic
extraction” in a recent interview.
In addition to working on a new book The Letter and The Spirit and a follow-up CD to 2002’s Spirit-Filled Spoken Word, Judah–who is an ordained full-time minister– is looking for a distribution deal for his Poetry Poster (as seen on the products page.)
News and Reviews

Report from the Presbyterian Coalition
By Leslie Scanlon, Outlook National Reporter, 10.09.03
The worship showed what’s possible—the soloists let loose in praise to God, children danced like flappers to gospel music, “lyrical evangelist” Judah Israel recited rapid-fire rap poems inspired by Scripture. “I totally like had an epiphany about this,” he said, grinning an on-fire-for-Jesus grin.

Open Mic was just as exciting as the show,
as Poet Judah Israel drew a standing ovation.
His contemporary Christian style and fluid flow was to everyone’s
liking.

Howlin’ with the Full Moon
By Bonnie Vandewater, 04.01.05
“Poet Judah Israel Michael wasn’t selected in the pool this time, but entertained the audience during a break while the scorekeepers tallied votes. His lyrical poem, “The New Music,” captures the essence of the Poetry Slam. In it, he says:
It takes more than mere words
to create a solution
more than tight rhythm
to fight pop-culture’s confusion
more than academic elitism
and pretentious exclusion
it takes Spoken Word Poetry
to start a musical revolution!”

“Judah, I
praise the Lord for your awesome interpretation of the word through
poetry!!! It’s good to know God
is using the performing arts as tools to encourage and win souls to Christ
in these last days…especially the youth because they can really identify
with rap, poetry and rhyming.
God will continue to use you in a powerful and explosive way for this
generation.”
Pamela Denwiddie
